Marie-Galante having a round form as a "flat cake", was compared to a sombrero (hat) put on the sea, by Christopher Colombus.

He called it so in hommage to one of his ships.

With its sugarcane stretching into the horizon, the growing of sugarcane is the essential agricultural activitie of the Island, called "the Island with hundred of Mills".
Some of them are well preserved, like the "Moulin de Bézard" in Capesterre.

This Mill was totally restaured in 1995. The rum of Marie-Galante is considered to be one of the best in the Caribbean.

When you finish visiting Marie-Galante,
" you feel a certain deep feeting of calm, of absolute serenity"
.

A feeling that is deeply and strongly rooted in the Island
